Dancing bugs, cake and cheesy puffs, dead fish and Wal-mart's stellar return policy!
Can it be possible? Two posts in a week? Slow 'er down Mama!!
Nothing too exciting to write about really. Bryce is entertaining and of course the most amazing kid we know, but he hasn't "WOW-ed" us with any crazy talent or cutesie saying this week.
We bought a new game called Scatterpillar from Wal-Mart. We were out to eat and actually wanted to get a game that we could all play together and Danica and Kara had this one. Bryce liked it when we were up there visiting last time so I thought I would try and find it.
Wouldn't you know that Wal-Mart had it on sale for $7!!! Amazing considering most of the games were twice or triple that much. Even more amazing is that Bryce has played with it everyday, several times a day since we bought it. Well worth the $7. Thanks Wally World and your damn good sales! (and damn good people watching....)
The basics: There are little marbles and over-sized tweezers and this caterpillar stands up and you have to get all of your colored marbles on his hands/feet/appendages. The catch is he is dancing and wiggling around and it is difficult to actually get your marbles on those little gloved hand/feet deals. The music is annoying and the little larvae has this evil laugh that can really get on the nerves, but Bryce enjoys it so we deal.
He thankfully shuts it off because it is too hard for him to play when the drunk bug is dancing so we are periodically spared from the "jolly" tune.
Saturday morning we went to a birthday party for a friend of mine's little girl who turned 4. It was at the YMCA near the house where Bryce had swimming lessons last year.
It was a great place to have a party- the water slide area was reserved just for the guests and we must have been in the water for at least 45 minutes to an hour.
He was a little hesitant to splash around but when he realized that all of the other kids were running around and splashing and having a blast, he jumped right in. He went down the big, green slide once. I might have accidentally picked him up and tossed him down. Oops. And then decided he didn't want to go on the big, green slide anymore and chose the little blue ones instead.
There were two side-by-side so another little kid would sit down and they would race. I would do the "Get, ready, set GO!" spiel and then they would slide down. Must have done that at least 200 times. Maybe 250.
Bryce refused to get out when time was up...had to threaten him with "There won't be any cake left if you don't get out now!" That seemed to do the trick. He shot across the water to his towel faster than a speeding bullet and was sitting at one of the tables with the rest of the kids. Complete cake-aholic.
We had some snacks. He kept asking me for "Pups"- "Mama can I have some pups?" I could not figure out what the heck he was talking about. I finally noticed that the girl next to him had cheesy puffs and that's what he had been asking me for. So he had cheesy puffs. And a mini muffin. Grapes were on the plate and he looked at them. Does that qualify as "consumption?"
So the grapes had no chance after that. Oh well, birthday parties, holidays, and days of the week ending in "-day" are exceptions to the "must-eat-some-what-healthy" rule.
He enjoyed sitting next to the kids and wanted to sit next to Ava the birthday girl but I squeezed him in next to another little boy on the end.

My friend Lauren is starting a photography business so I thought the birthday party would be a good way to maybe get some business and to if anything, gain some experience. She did a great job and took some great photos of Bryce.
We've also watched more movies- thank God for RedBox- and ate popcorn and we let him sleep in our bed this weekend so I had to deal with him not wanting to sleep in his bed Monday night. He was tired though so it was more of a struggle for my heart than him physically getting up every 5 seconds, "Mama don't leave me!" UGH.
UPDATE ON THE FISH: Tuck has bit the dust. Already. Gonna have to flush and replace tonight. Wal-Mart has a return policy on fish too so I guess we'll be trekking back up there tonight for a look-a-like. RIP Tuck #1.
UPDATE ON THE UPDATE: We took Tuck #1 back to Wal-Mart- told Bryce he died and went to heaven to be with Jesus and Bryce promptly said, "Can I have ice cream?" Very distraught, huh?
So Mike scooped up Tuck #1 and put him in a little baggie and Bryce got his ice cream cone and we drove over to Wal-Mart. To return a dead fish.
Bryce wanted to hold Tuck #1 and so he had an ice cream cone in one hand and a dead fish in the other.
Waiting in line at Wal-Mart...
When we went up to the return counter, Bryce said "My fish is dead." The lady could careless and with her very dry sense of humor, told Bryce that he and Mike could take said dead fish to the little boys room and flush him and I would get to pocket the refund. I laughed. Mike just stared at her. Bryce took a lick of his ice cream cone.
We went to the "fish aisle" and tracked down a lady who could help us. Mike picked out a damn good look-a-like and so we brought Tuck #2 home.
"The Replacement"....Tuck #2...
Bryce said if he dies, we can get another one. Somehow the life/death lesson didn't quite get across to him but I decided to save that chat for another day....
Introducing Lenny...
And here's Ming-Ming...the sucker fish...

Frosting was served and I think he managed to get some cake with it.
Let's just say he is more of a frosting-aholic than a cake-aholic and was in no way bent out of shape.
His plate actually fell on the ground but he still had a bite left and managed to snatch it off with his fork before I could tell him to leave it. Even licked the plate clean!

He was good overall and I could tell he really enjoyed being around all of the kids.

The Byrds get Crafty! (and add 3 more members to The Byrdhouse...)
So, Mommy and Daddy had a weekend away in Buckhead Georgia for Lisa's wedding. It was the perfect wedding. Her friends were so sweet and welcoming and it was great to see her family and of course to be there to see her so happy and in love.
Bryce-man spent the weekend with Grandma and Papaw so he was having a pretty good time too.
He went to a show at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center with Grandma and Yiayia on Saturday to see a show with some of the Nickelodeon characters. Yiayia and Grandma said he had a blast and he told me who was there and what the skits were about.
We drove up on Friday and got back Sunday around dinner time. I took Monday off so I could spend time with Bryce...and since we were missing him a ton!
We were feeling guilty I guess for leaving him because Monday turned into Craft/Activity day. Mike wanted to buy something at Michael's for all of us to do together but we decided we had enough crap around the house to figure something out. And we did.
We had bought an activity book at a garage sale awhile ago and it came in pretty handy. We made a volcano out of baking soda, vinegar and a water bottle (no red food coloring for the lava so we substituted red sprinkles...which Bryce just wanted to eat!)
Mike thought it was a little boring just pouring in the vinegar and watching it bubble so he decided to let the pressure build up a bit and cover the bottle with his finger and........MAJOR ERUPTION! Vinegar EVERYWHERE!
Any good ideas on how to get vinegar out of carpet and a flat screen tv??
Then we decided to make a pinata out of paper mache'. Bryce helped Mike stir up the flour/water mix.
That was a mess and all Bryce wanted to do was dip the newspaper in the flour/water mix. Mike and I did all the leg work- soaking the paper and putting all over the balloon. We ran out of newspaper so I tore up an old phone book and that worked just fine.
We had to let it dry overnight and Bryce was excited to know that candy would eventually be put inside of it. And he liked the "hit it with a baseball bat" part too.
Kitchen was a disaster but it was worth the fun we had!
The next day, it had dried so we let him "decorate it" with markers and crayons and stickers.
Not only did our guilt cause us to partake in craft/activities, but we also bought him a fish tank. A 5 gallon fish tank with a filter. The first time we bought him a fish bowl we had a single goldfish in there (named Rex) and it was a pain in the ass trying to keep the water cleaned.
RIP Rex.
SO this time we thought we would be responsible and get one that cleans itself AND we bought a sucker fish for back-up. So now he has 2 goldfish and a sucker fish.

They are named after a kid's show called the Wonder Pets- the large orange and white one is Lenny, the smaller multi-colored one is Tuck, and the sucker fish is Ming-Ming.

Bryce likes having new buddies in his room and tells them to not be scared when it is time for bed. He also likes making us smell the nasty, stinky fish food.
He's also been counting and can count to 13 or 14 consistently, and can count to 3 or 4 in Spanish and up to 10 with help.
He loves to paint and is a FULL OF ENERGY!
We role play and pretend that we are dragons or witches or lions and he runs around and changes his voice for each character. Sounds effects are used when necessary too.
Here's a few videos. Enjoy!

A side note (aka Mama's a ramblin'!)
My little baby no longer allows me to call him "baby." Even if I am not necessarily calling him a baby, simply saying, "Come here baby," he sternly reminds me, "Mommy, I'm not a baby. I'm a big boy."
I guess I want to hold on to that little, dependent baby. Most of the time...
There are times when he is absolutely, physically incapable of pulling up his underwear or he absolutely cannot reach his cup that is sitting 3 inches away from his hand and it is these moments when I am ready for him to forget that I am "The Mommy" and fend for himself. BUT, the thought leaves my mind. Eventually. After he has picked himself off of the floor 20 minutes later and wiped his snotty mess on my pant leg...
He understands jokes and pretends to be different characters and laughs at himself for calling me Yiayia instead of Mommy or when he makes a mistake and catches himself.
He is so truly in love with me. And the feeling is deeply mutual. He can stop the world from spinning by just smiling or giving me a big squeeze. The world is such a better place with this little booger in it!
I try and not think of the day when he will not need me to care for him daily or when he first does something on purpose that is hurtful or disappointing. When I am no longer "Mommy." I mean, I know I will always be his Mommy but I have to face that he is growing up.
Snuggling with him at night is like being in another world- free from worry and no thoughts of the day dare enter into my mind. I am totally consumed by the moment. Just me and my boy. What a blessed time. Our time.
I hesitate to even share our "nest" moments: We lay there and he asks me to tell him what he has named "Tree Stories"- bed time stories that started with him climbing a giant tree and on each branch he would meet a new character. The stories change each night and usually involve food or pirates or Woody and Buzz. Anything that my newly, awakened imagination can drum up.
He laughs and we giggle and I unknowingly fall into his world- giggling and becoming completely swallowed by the moment. I Love this kid. Love him.
Now, I won't lie and say that that happens every night. There are nights when I am tired and selfish and just want him to let me tuck him in and kiss him and say good night and him tell me to not let the door hit me on the way out....BUT, I am only human, not June Cleaver.
And Imagination. Wow. Welcome back! Where has mine been all of these years?
I think as we get older and our lives become complicated and messy, our mind has to make room for coping skills and other junk and the first thing to get the boot is The Imagination. Then we have kids and our memory struggles to keep it's place so who can even begin to think about The Imagination?
But luckily, my imagination was only asleep. Kids are large mocha, latte fraps (you can tell I don't drink coffee, etc.) that kick start the imagination. A little CPR for the comatose "thing" that used to be every child's defining characteristic. Again, thanks Bryce for bringing mine back to life.
This week I've been in a rock band, a pirate, Buzz Lightyear, a dancer, I've colored many "pretty pictures", a doctor and a patient, a baby, and have eaten "bath-tub soup" numerous times. Always yummy. He's a good cook.
It's fun to let loose and not be completely embarrased by wearing underwear on your head and a towel for a cape and running around screaming and dancing. Good times. Unfortunately for you, the camera battery just happenned to die when all of this pretending was going on...
I have read so many blogs about Mums and Dads and their babies and families and how their lives unfold and the ups and downs. I think change and love are recurring themes. Change can be good. And love can't be a bad thing. Especially when it's shared with a 2.5 year old boy who likes to pee on the plants in the front yard. In broad daylight. And then laughs.
So I've rambled long enough and now will give you's what your here for....pictures of the kid:

Bryce the "BIG BOY"
Where do I begin??
It has been too long since I have typed a Bryce update. I'll just ramble on and see what I can remember:
-We are potty training and have been for about a month. He is doing very good. At first, he didn't want to poopy on the potty but now he tells us when he has to go. He still waves "bye" to the poo or pee pee. He still wears a diaper or pull-up at night. He also feels the need to describe his poopy and it usually looks like food to him...."french fry" and "banana" are common descriptions. Eeeeewwww.
-He talks all the time but still acts a little shy when meeting someone new.
-He says his "No thank you's" and "May I's" but can be very demanding and bratty if he doesn't get what he wants. He is a full-blown toddler.
-He loves to swim and is getting more brave in the water.
-He is starting to sing and will sing "Ring around the Rosy" and part of the alphabet.
-He can count to 15 or 16 and as high as 20 but not consistently.
-He is STUBBORN.
-Loves to color with his sidewalk chalk.
-Has been watching Toy Story 1 & 2 religiously for the past month or so. He has Woody and Buzz Lightyear figures and just got Jesse as a prize for pooping on the potty. We took him to the theater to see Toy Story 3 in 3-D. Glued to the "Humongous TV" and ate too much popcorn.
-We've been going to Busch Gardens almost every weekend. He is crazy about the rides and even likes to go on the roller coaster.
-I started this entry on June 6th and am continuing on June 24th and he's already changed in that short amount of time!
-He likes to pretend and acts like a shark, a witch, a pirate, Buzz Lightyear, and acts like he calls the doctor and then has to give me a shot.
-Says "Don't tell me that" and "Don't see me" (which means he is either going to do something he shouldn't be doing or he was already busted for doing something and is now mad and embarrassed.)
-Tells me he loves me and that he missed me when I was at work.
-Told me there were lions in my bedroom and wanted to show me.
-Thinks that all birthday parties are for him and is visibly upset when he's told that his birthday isn't until December
-Says "Hilarious", "Ridiculous" and "Awesome" when describing something he saw or something he witnessed.
-Saw a rainbow the other day and was completely intrigued and now looks for one every time it rains.
-Grandma "hit it on the nail" when she said he was "All boy."
I am just still amazed at his growth over the past 2.5 years. This little guy has added so much joy and love into our lives. He is so much fun and has really helped keep everyone together and connected. Love him!

A Day with Thomas the Tank Engine
Today the clan went to the Parrish Railroad Museum to ride......duh duh duuuuuhhhh.....
THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE!
The Thomas engine was here for the weekend and seeing as Bryce is a Thomas enthusiast, aka "Thomas-freak", we bought tickets and invited (forced) Uncle Bobby, Aunt Tonya, Baby Summer, Yiayia and Pappou to come with us and enjoy the festivities.
We arrived and it was packed. They had food and games and a hay ride and other activities for the little kiddies to participate in.
Bryce went on the hay ride with Pappou and then we took pictures with Sir Toppham Hatt- the Mayor of Sodor (the Island where Thomas and his friends live...of course.)
Bryce is not scared of characters but this guy was a little scary so I went to meet him too. Baby Summer was fine until, what we dubbed the "Planter Peanut's Evil Twin," moved. Let's just say she gave her lungs a work out!
Yiayia and Pappou got in line early since seats were not assigned. We joined them, after our photo op with Sir Hatt.
Bryce's face was priceless when he saw Thomas coming down the track! He was so excited and waved to him and just stared in awe.
We finally boarded and sat in the first car which was an open air car. Both Summer and Bryce (and all of us really) had a great time. Bryce kept waving to everyone and everything including a piece of construction equipment and most of the trees on our side of the train. Very cute.
After the 20 minute ride, we took pictures in front of Thomas. By this time it was a little warm out and he was a little fussy. Not "out of control" fussy so we stopped by the Imagination Station and he played with some giant legos and we stamped his arms with stamps that I don't think were meant for human skin (learned that after it was smeared all over my hands and Bryce's hands.)
Yiayia and Pappou bought him an engineer hat, which he LOVES, and then he rode the kiddie train.
After the big time out with Thomas, we all rode over to Noni's house for some KFC and Noni QT.
She enjoyed the visit, Baby Summer and Bryce turned up the "cuteness" factor. I think they had a pow-wow before we arrived and worked out the details:
Bryce: "So listen, let's be super cute so Noni will give me an ice cream bar and you'll get extra hugs and kisses."
Summer: "K, but I want to at least get one lick of ice cream soooooo, I will fake like I'm gonna walk, take a step, and then fall into your ice cream, mouth open."
Bryce: "Not bad, but just don't take a big bite k, and easy on the slobber."
Summer: "Let's just remember who's boss here, 'em k?"
Bryce: "Yes ma'am."
We ate, played, snapped pictures and then took our tired babies home. Tonya said Summer was out before they hit US 301 and Bryce was a close second crashing out about 10 minutes after we were on the road.
It was a fun day with the fam and although the music was obnoxious and our feet were black, the "bay-bays" can add another notch in their memory belts.
Very cute.

A 2 year old and his "Bu-berry" pie.....

(This was taken on Christmas Eve. Grandma had made bluberry pie for Mike and Bryce LOVED it. And of course he REALLY needed a haircut. Of course.)

Come on Spring! Bryce is ready for ya!

He started practicing playing with water, puddles, and sand the other night. The weather has been so unpredictable this year. I guess we can count on it being chilly but it warms up and then WHAM! Chilly again.
There was a puddle that had collected from the storm that lasted all day on Friday so he spotted it and game on.
He was trying to splash me while I took pictures so I was able to get some great smiles and expressions from him. The camera and my pants and shirt took the brunt of the splash attack.
We had fun and although it was a bit chilly, we sucked it up and he eventually ended up with no pants on (they were soaked) and in the sandbox.
