Bryce is all boy. (I'm not saying girls can't get messy/grungy too.) Worms. Dirt. Worms in dirt. He's all about it. The kid loves to be outside. It finally rained on Tuesday in the late afternoon/early evening. After it stopped and the clouds lifted, the Byrds went out to look for some worms!
Bryce and I took a stroll around the block. Me on the sidewalk and Bryce on all of the neighbors lawns and driveways picking up a stick or piece of bark along the way. It amazes me at the most minute thing he will find.
He did pretty good keeping up, until the home stretch...he spotted a worm. It was as if he had discovered gold! He was absolutely amazed at this wiggly, (nasty) little, slimy creature that the rain had stranded on the sidewalk. I poked at it with a blade of grass (I'm not touchin' that thing!) which made it scrunch up and stretch out in discomfort or fear I don't know which. Bryce thought that was the coolest thing ever! He wanted to grab it but I was afraid he would hurt it so I picked him up to head home. Little man was not likin' that idea.
He wanted to explore his new find a little more while Mama was ready to head on to the nest.
He wanted to explore his new find a little more while Mama was ready to head on to the nest.Needless to say we had a little fit until Papa Byrd decided to dig up a worm for his Baby Byrd. This led to Mike digging up the hole where he had removed a small tree smack dab in the middle of our front yard. No critters there. Bryce loved this idea and grabbed a shovel to "help" out.
Mike moved on to the next dirt patch in the yard. Nada. About 45 minutes later, it looked like we were searching for buried treasure in our front yard (and Mike didn't even have his metal detector..heehee!) Bryce was covered in dirt, holes throughout the yard, and a handful of mosquito bites later...not a single worm.

Bryce didn't care. He just enjoyed moving dirt from one hole to the other. He quickly figured out that Dada's shovel could do more destruction.

"Toy shovel, pft. I don't need no stinkin' toy shovel."
Bryce's determination (or his being stubborn) amazes me. The shovel was obviously bigger and heavier than him but he knew he was going to drag it across the driveway into one of those holes (which were slowing becoming tunnels to China.)
He seems to accomplish whatever his little mind sets out to do. Hopefully this will stick with him in life (good for mama and dada - I don't know!)

"If I can just get it over the edge...."

Let's just say the tub needed a thorough scrub down after this dirt-digging duo got finished washing off!
